サンクスギビング休み
こんにちは！
先週 サンクスギビング休みが ありました。私のサンクスギビング休みは よかったですが、とても みじかいです。私は 友達と くるまで うちに かえりました。にじゅうろく日から
さんじゅう日まで サンクスギビング休みでした。

Opportunity
A few days ago there was an information session on summer language programs that students can take advantage. Out of all of the options I really want to travel to Japan through the Princeton in Ishikawa program. It sounds like an amazing chance to practice Japanese and experience the culture. I plan to talk to my 先生 about applying for the program. The program involves around two months in Japan with a host family. Students then travel to the school building and when inside, can only speak Japanese. If I get accepted I will do my best to use Japanese at all times while there because it is the best way to learn.

あきやすみ
こんばんは。
せんしゅう あきやすみが ありました。あきやすみが よくでした。でも とても
みじかいでした。わたしは えいがが いきました。ゴネ グルラ(Gone Girl)は みました。
そして しゅくだいを しました。しゅくだいは ぜんぜん たのしいありませんでした。そして わたしは ゲームを しました。まいにち じゅういちじごろ おきました。あいやすみが よくでした！

Reflection
おはようございます。
It has been seven weeks in Japanese 101 and I think I have learned a huge amount in that time. I feel that I have improved quite a bit from the very beginning and my goals have helped me. Some of my goals was to speak accurately and precisely even if I do not speak fast. To do this I said I would shadow videos several times a week. I have tried to keep up with this goals and have shadowed at least once a week. I think my speaking has become more accurate even though it is somewhat slow. I also said that i wanted to be a better listener. To do this I said I would watch anime. I have been watching more than one episode a day for a couple weeks now and I have slowly been able to pick out more and more words. They are still few and far in between but I think I am seeing a slight improvement there. My future goals are to hear and understand fast sentences and in order to do this I will go to office hours at least once a week. I will also keep watching anime. I also want to be able to write what I hear directly in hirigana/katakana/kanji because I have to write the words in English first. To practice this I will go through the listening exercises in the book and try writing as much as I can. I'm still not the best at Japanese and as I focus on other certain areas like memorizing vocab and spelling my other areas such as speaking do not improve but I will try to round out my studying and get better at all sides of this language!

Goals
Ohayoo Gozaimasu,
Through the course of this class I really want to achieve some goals. One of these goals is to advance further into Japanese,than I did in High School french. I want to learn to speak accurately, with proper pronunciation. Not necessarily fast, but accurately. I will probably shadow quite a few clips to practice the proper way to speak. I will attempt to shadow three times a week for around 10 mins. My second goal is to learn better listening skills. I have trouble picking out subtle differences and want to be able to. I think listening to Japanese clips from movies or songs or news would help me learn to pick out the differences. I will attempt to watch Japanese anime on the days I do not shadow either part of an episode or the full episode. My plan is, by the end of this series of courses, to achieve full fluency. Its going to be difficult but I am ready for the challenge.

Interests
Konnichiwa,
My Professor today, Shibata Sensee, suggested that everyone share their interests in Japanese culture. So I guess here it goes, I am a huge video gamer. I play a lot of games and probably more often then I should. My favorite series is the Final Fantasy series which is made by Square Enix. I love the music, the story, and the elements of culture that are hidden within the game. Besides video games, I love movies. Hayao Miyazaki films are some of my favorites. Spirited Away and Howl's Moving Castle rank extremely high up on the list. But besides all of the pop culture I really enjoy the spiritual ideas of Japan. The influence of nature and all of the traditions are extremely cool to me. I hope to learn more from this course and be able to appreciate the culture more.

Konnichiwa
Konnichiwa, hajimemashite, Darling desu Doozo yoroshiku!
My name is Walker Darling or Walker san now that JPN 101 has started.
I'm super excited to be taking this class and cannot wait to go deeper into the language. I chose to take this class because I really like the culture that I receive from Japan through video games, movies, some comics, and many TV shows that I have seen. The language is beautiful and I feel that I would get more out of what I see if I understood it. So I joined the class. The greatest future excitement for me is having actual conversations with people. In High School, I had a terrible experience with French and want to start over. It would be really awesome to get to a level that actually feels like I've made progress. So far, I'm following this goal. The most difficult part of the class so far is differentiating the specific words and phrases but I know its going to get easier. Today I felt that I had improved a lot even from yesterday. Tommorow I get to meet another sensee!
