PE1

こんにちは、

As of Monday, I began my Second Semester here at Princeton. Not only that, but I began Japanese 102. This is going to be a tough class but I am ready to take it on. For this semester I have a few goals:

1. Stuttering: Over the last semester and even now I seem to have a large problem where I stutter while trying to come up with the words to say. This semester I want to fix this. I think the best way to do so is to practice with my 先生 at their office hours and get faster at using the vocabulary that I know. I will also try to spend more time going back over old vocab.
2. Accuracy: My second goal for this semester is to speak each of my sentences in an accurate way. I want to pronounce the sentences so that all of the tones and particles as well as the set-up is correct. It does not have to be very fast but I want it to be precise. This is a really large goal that will probably take up most of my time and I will only make oh so much progress. But I am looking forward to the challenge.

As the semester continues I plan on trying to shadow once or twice a week as well as keep watching anime. I am on the second series of Naruto and it is getting quite good. Hopefully this, with office hours, will help me improve my speaking dramatically. Uh-oh, 私は　ためより先生で　会います。

サンクスギビング休み

こんにちは！

先週　サンクスギビング休みが　ありました。私のサンクスギビング休みは　よかったですが、とても　みじかいです。私は　友達と　くるまで　うちに　かえりました。にじゅうろく日から　
さんじゅう日まで　サンクスギビング休みでした。

私は　はちじに　おくて、ハンテング（Hunting)に　いきました。ハンテングは　たのしくて、
ディル（Deer)　みました。そして　ごご　いちじに　サンクスギビングごはんを　たべました。
ターキー（Turkey)や　スタフグ（Stuffing)や　くだものや　パイ（Pie)を　たべました。
ターキーが　大好きです。げームを　友達と　しました。サンクスギビングが　好きです。

Opportunity

A few days ago there was an information session on summer language programs that students can take advantage. Out of all of the options I really want to travel to Japan through the Princeton in Ishikawa program. It sounds like an amazing chance to practice Japanese and experience the culture. I plan to talk to my 先生 about applying for the program. The program involves around two months in Japan with a host family. Students then travel to the school building and when inside, can only speak Japanese. If I get accepted I will do my best to use Japanese at all times while there because it is the best way to learn.

あきやすみ

こんばんは。
せんしゅう　あきやすみが　ありました。あきやすみが　よくでした。でも　とても　
みじかいでした。わたしは　えいがが　いきました。ゴネ　グルラ(Gone Girl)は　みました。
そして　しゅくだいを　しました。しゅくだいは　ぜんぜん　たのしいありませんでした。そして　わたしは　ゲームを　しました。まいにち　じゅういちじごろ　おきました。あいやすみが　よくでした！

Reflection

おはようございます。
It has been seven weeks in Japanese 101 and I think I have learned a huge amount in that time. I feel that I have improved quite a bit from the very beginning and my goals have helped me. Some of my goals was to speak accurately and precisely even if I do not speak fast. To do this I said I would shadow videos several times a week. I have tried to keep up with this goals and have shadowed at least once a week. I think my speaking has become more accurate even though it is somewhat slow. I also said that i wanted to be a better listener. To do this I said I would watch anime. I have been watching more than one episode a day for a couple weeks now and I have slowly been able to pick out more and more words. They are still few and far in between but I think I am seeing a slight improvement there. My future goals are to hear and understand fast sentences and in order to do this I will go to office hours at least once a week. I will also keep watching anime. I also want to be able to write what I hear directly in hirigana/katakana/kanji because I have to write the words in English first. To practice this I will go through the listening exercises in the book and try writing as much as I can. I'm still not the best at Japanese and as I focus on other certain areas like memorizing vocab and spelling my other areas such as speaking do not improve but I will try to round out my studying and get better at all sides of this language!
